The governmental and societal conflicts that libraries are forced to face on a regular basis can be a hard reality to process at times, but the fact remains that legislative changes, public backlashes, and the like may be encountered at some point in our professional lives. This group project involved library students coming together to discuss a series of potential solutions to a hypothetical (but no doubt true) scenario in which the employees of a library were being essentially forbade from speaking on behalf of the library (writing articles, speaking on panels, etc.) without that material first being screened for anything that might negatively impact the library. Having a group of teammates work on this problem effectively mirrored the manner in which this scenario would likely play out in reality, and as such it prepared all of us for the kind of unification and critical thinking that such a scenario would call for should we ever encounter it.

When managing a staff of employees, the need to motivate and inspire them to care about their work should be at the forefront of every supervisor's agenda. Without motivation the workplace suffers; it is the fuel that runs the entire machine. I chose this as the subject of my major paper for my library administration course, as it seemed to me the block upon which all other duties and responsibilities of the supervisor are built. The paper allowed me to study and understand matters such as recognizing employee apathy and frustration, working through conflict, and putting directives in place and acquiring resources that ensured consistent satisfaction.
